Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge

Hellooo my lovelies,

The other day I was in Boots picking up some 'essentials' and this Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge caught my eye. I wasn't in a massive rush to pick this up because despite being a massive Real Techniques fan, I'm not really into the whole sponge application method. There's much debate on reviews of this product about it being great and equally not so great and many say that it is a massive dupe for the Beauty Blender. I have never owned a Beauty Blender or any other sponge applicator so I can't really comment on this BUT if you are looking to try out a sponge applicator, I'd recommend trying out this one first as it is a heck of a lot cheaper! (but then the Beauty Blender is pink....hehehe!) The Real Techniques sponge retails at £5.99 but the Beauty Blender costs over double the price at £16.00!

The idea of this is quite simple, you rinse the sponge in cold water (more refreshing this way), squeeze it out, towel dry it gently then apply the makeup whilst the sponge is expanded for a softer smoother look. It has rounded sides to use on the large areas of your face in a dabbing motion, a pointed tip for covering imperfections and a flat edge for getting into the harder to reach areas around the nose and eyes. I did this and I just didn't think it achieved as good results that I can get by using my Expert Face brush (sorry Pixiwoo!). I felt it soaked up a lot of my foundation, wasting a lot of the product so I needed twice as much foundation, which is definitely not ideal when using pricier foundations! I tried using it with both Nars Sheer Glow and Rimmel London's Wake Me Up foundation and sadly it just did not do it for me! It was good but I can acheive better and by putting less time and effort into it! However when I used my Mac Studio Fix foundation it did give a really flawless finish, whether it's the foundation or I'm getting better at sponge application, I'm not too sure but it still did soak up much more product than I need with my brush. Additionally it does add alot more time to your make-up routine than swizzing a brush round your face does which does make me like my brushes more. In credit to it though, I have never managed to get as good a coverage of concealer under my eye than I have with this sponge so it hasn't been a waste of money. However, it's an absolute mare to clean thoroughly but for just over a fiver it's not a bad buy! Maybe if you like using sponge applicators it would be a different story and you'd totally loveee this but I think I'm going to stick to my Real Techniques expert face brush for now!

Have you tried the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge or a Beauty Blender? What did you think of them?

    1. If you love the Beauty Blender then you probably will like this! It's more the sponge concept of it needing more of my product and taking more time up that I didn't like :-) x
